Antique Mechanical Music Instruments, Music Boxes, Barrel Organs, Gramophones
I first started my own business in 1976 after collecting mechanical musical boxes for aprox.
6 years where I stored them in every available space at my parents home.
After I married Marianne we moved into our own home in the village of Oberentfelden, which is
situated close to Aarau in between Zurich Bern and Basel. From 1980 - 1988 business was booming,
we sold music boxes all over the world supplying many museums & collections with rare and good
quality music boxes, barrel organs, phonographs, orchestrions ect.
With the recession in 1990 sales became harder. From 1997 on the Japanese market became smaller &
smaller. So we were very happy to still have the Swiss market, where we visited many antique shows
and where we found the necessary customers to survive.
It has always been our priority to only sell fully restored instruments.
All our restorers are self-employed who specialize in:
Cylinder and disc music boxes, phonographs, pianos & orchestrions, barrel organs
and automata. All these different categories require special knowledge and therefore
different people work on them. We also give work to some good cabinet restorers.
This job requires a special taste for antique musical instruments.
The main reason why we are still in business, is that our interest is to supply only excellent
instruments, fully restored and of high quality.
Our great experience is also helpful when collectors or museums are looking for special
instruments. We can locate them because we are often travelling around and know
many dealers, auction houses and collectors all over the world. It can take years to buy
a wanted instrument from a collector, maybe for another collector.
Customers are invited to come to Switzerland and visit our Schowroom at Oberentfelden or our
"Mechanical Musicparadise" at Schönenwerd.
